I love my Neurologist

April 15th, 2009 · No Comments

Seriously, love him. He is so easy to talk to, open to ideas, funny and well, he’s not bad to look at either.

Anyway, next month is my one year anniversary which means it’s MRI time! You might want to sit down for this but…. they scheduled my MRI on a WEEKEND!!!!! OMG! I don’t have to miss work for an MRI! I almost died! I guess that’s the benefit of having it done in a hospital. MRSA might be the other benefit but at least I won’t miss work.

He is also going to schedule me a neurophysiology exam so we can get a cognitive baseline. That way if I do get a little nutty we have proof for disability that I use to be ok. He says the test sucks so I might be a few drinks after but it’ll be worth it.

Well, the MS walk is happening tomorrow! If you are attending the Seattle MS Walk, be on the look out for two nutty women. My mother demanded her own shirt so hers says “Mom of http://msgirl.org”. Mine is just “http://msgirl.org”. If you see us, stop and say hello!

Did anyone catch tonights ER? A few weeks ago they had a lady Multiple Sclerosis on and tonight was her night to die. As the doctor said she has a degenerative disease, it’s her time to go!

When are we going to get some good media attention? Either we were crying or dying.

People Who Sit In The Disability Seats When I’m Standing On My Crutches is a blog that takes pictures of people not willing to get their ass out of the disable seats on the subway.

Hmm, should I move? Let me think for a second first…

Hahah! You Fools!

March 30th, 2009 · 2 Comments

You get cancer and I don’t. NEENER NEENER NEENER…. or something. In case you missed it, those of us with MS have a reduced for most cancers.

The risk of cancer (overall and specifically including cancers of the stomach, pancreas, lung, ovary, prostate, and lymphoma) was reduced by about 10% in people with MS compared to controls, particularly among women. However, the investigators also found that the risk of brain tumors and urinary cancers was increased, noting the possibility that some of this may relate to the increased surveillance and diagnostic workups such as MRI that people with MS are more likely to have compared to those without MS, There were no increased or decreased cancer risks for parents of people with MS compared with parents of controls, arguing against any simple inherited characteristic.

Like brain cancer is any different than MS anyway… puleeease.

Social Marketing

March 26th, 2009 · No Comments

Since we are on the topic of Dr. Oz, I found this article in the New York Times to be quite interesting: Online Age Quiz Is a Window for Drug Makers.

Have you taken the online “RealAge” quiz which Dr. Oz pimps on Oprah? I have. I found some of the questions and the results to quite odd. It asks if you have Multiple Sclerosis but I guess given what he said on Oprah, we shouldn’t be surprised he thinks MS kills. The other odd part is that it put me at like 27 years old. Seeing that I am an obese 30 yr old woman with MS, I find that highly unlikely.

Anyway, it seems the RealAge quiz is nothing more than a way for drug companies to market the drugs better. We shouldn’t be shocked by this I guess. My real question is, what is the point of CatAge? Are they going to start marking drugs to my cat? And yes, I took that test too. There is no way I can survive 10 more years with this cat. :) I would htink she only has a couple more cat lives left.

RealAge allows drug companies to send e-mail messages based on those test results. It acts as a clearinghouse for drug companies, including Pfizer, Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline, allowing them to use almost any combination of answers from the test to find people to market to, including whether someone is taking antidepressants, how sexually active they are and even if their marriage is happy.

I can’t wait for the copaxone spam to start.
