last year was a crazy week. Diagnosed with MS and put on a 3 day dose of IV steroids during Memorial day weekend! The big MRI is Saturday at 930am. Sweet.

Bridal Store kicks woman with MS out!
May 19th, 2009 · No Comments
Holy crap. A summary is on The Consumerist. The full story with video is on the local media here.
Ooo, you nasty! With your service animal! Get out of here! That’s the new informal slogan of Isis Bridal & Formal in Dallas after news broke that they kicked out a 62-year-old grandmother with multiple sclerosis, because they were worried her service dog would get service dog cooties all over the dresses.
The company has since indirectly apologized to the woman via a letter to the news station that broke the story (after first refusing to comment on the allegation at all), In the letter, the store’s owner assures the public that they welcome service animals “when they are leashed and well controlled so that our pretty wedding dresses and accessories are kept in good condition for customers.” There’s no mention of whether the woman’s dog was leashed or not, although the idea of a rambunctious service dog who doesn’t mind is just funny.
What the hell? No one even BUYS the sample dresses. When you order a dress, it takes months to even get it in. I ordered mine on February 14th and it won’t be here for another 3 weeks! Second, it would be a very odd day if I didn’t see a dog at Nordstroms’ or well, most stores in Seattle. It’s a dog, not a 2 year old. Dogs can be calm. Anyway, Isis Bridal sucks.

There.

I did it. I gave myself a shot. Of course, now I am itching and hurting so bad that I won’t be able to sleep on my right side tonight.
All I gotta say is…. my MRI better be perfect for all this freakin itching. It’s next week. I think I should get a party if it’s the same as last year. If it’s not then I think I should get a party for putting up with all the stupid itching for no reason. Well, I don’t really like parties so maybe no parties. I wouldn’t mind another camera lens though.
Oh, just so I have something positive, here are some pictures I took yesterday at the Aquarium:

Copaxone Anonymous
May 15th, 2009 · 1 Comment
I confess. It’s been almost 48 hours since my last shot. That means I did not do my shot last night. I need to join Copaxone Anonymous (CA) and start working the steps. I promise to do it tonight even thought I am still itching from my shot two days ago. Step one is admitting that I have a problem…. I hate the freakin shots.
(Not meant to offend those with actually addition problems (and chocolate doesn’t count)).

Shots

I am tired of shots. I am tired of the pain from the shots. I am tired of the two day bump. I am tired of the two day itchy bump. I am so freakin tired of the shots. I am tired of the big huge annoying box that the shots come in from Aetna. I am tired of Aetna calling me all the time to get a new prescription. I am tired of shared solutions calling me to ask me some random questions. I am just plain tired of the freakin shots. ok? ok. Argh!!!!!!

Swine Flu
May 7th, 2009 · No Comments
They released the medical history of the two people in the states that died from swine flu. Surprise Surprise, auto-immune disorders were the primary cause:
The 22-month-old child who died April 27 of the flu, also called H1N1, had neonatal myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease, said the report, which was written by a virus investigation team at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and published online in the New England Journal of Medicine. The child — who was from Mexico and who fell ill while visiting relatives in Texas — also had a heart defect, problems swallowing and chronic hypoxia, the report said.
The 33-year-old Texas woman who died last week was pregnant when she became ill, the article said. She had been diagnosed with asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.
I was thinking it might be kind of cool to get the swine flu but I changed my mind now.

High doses of Vitamin D cuts relapse rate!
May 1st, 2009 · No Comments
How cool is that?
Sixteen percent of 25 people with multiple sclerosis (MS) given an average of 14,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D a day for a year suffered relapses, says Jodie Burton, MD, a neurologist at the University of Toronto. In contrast, close to 40% of 24 MS patients who took an average of 1,000 IU a day — the amount recommended by many MS specialists — relapsed, she says.
Also, people taking high-dose vitamin D suffered 41% fewer relapses than the year before the study began, compared with 17% of those taking typical doses.
Interestingly enough…. the Neurology meeting is in Seattle. My Neurologist’s office is completely off and you are suppose to go to the ER if you need care. I hope the rest of the country has some Neurologists still at the office.

Uhm you want to do WHAT?
May 1st, 2009 · 2 Comments
So two years ago this was me:
And here I am again…. suffering worse pain than BEFORE. The doctor thought it was scar tissue so he has been doing injections hoping that the inflammation goes down. After two, we both kind of gave up and we went for a MRI. He was hoping to find out where the scar tissue was so that he could figure out how to fix it. I don’t think either of us thought we would see this:
I guess its scar tissue mixed in with little tears in the tendon itself. Not what either of us were expecting… so NOW… he wants to do some crazy sh*t. He wants to take a tendon and muscle for my big toe and MOVE it over to my Achilles Tendon. What the heck??!
Anyway, I go for a second opinion in a couple weeks but damn, I am so tired of pain.

Surgery and Relapses
April 15th, 2009 · No Comments
I asked the Neuro this morning about surgery and it leading to relapses. He said that there have been some very small studies that suggest anesthesia involving the spinal increase relapse rate. He said always ask for non-spinal type anesthesia.
Good to know.
