Stem cell research is always a touchy topic in politics. It’s a complicated topic to. The republicans say they for stem cell research and the democrats say they aren’t. The truth is, there are two types of stem cell research. The republicans are for adult stem cell research. The stem cells would be obtained from adults or children. Sadly, this type of stem cell is not what the scientists are excited about. They really want to be able to research Embryonic Stem Cells which is what democrats are for. The reason scientist want Embryonic Stem Cells are because an embryo uses two cells and can create any organ in the body.
When you think about the power of those two cells, it gets pretty exciting in terms of learning more or even curing Multiple Sclerosis. There are several studies around the world researching this very topic. The results so far have been very promising. In fact, scientists a couple weeks ago used stem cells to stop Multiple Sclerosis in rats:
Human embryonic stem cells injected by Hadassah University Medical Center scientists in the brains of mice with an animal model of multiple sclerosis have for the first time halted the progress of the disease, it was reported Sunday.
The possibilities of embryonic stem cells are incredible! Not just for me but for millions of others.
At this point, I am happy that other countries are allowing embryonic stem cell research so that we can find a cure. But it would sure be nice if the US could benefit in the marketplace also.
