Tonight was the fancy hotel night. I must say I was disappointed in the food but the view was nice on the 4th floor overlooking Elliott Bay. It would have been great if it wasn’t raining… None the less. We had a good time. It was highly educational. The director of the MS clinic at Virginia Mason was the speaker. Mariko Kita, MD was excellent to listen to. Tom was quite impressed with her and she went into great detail about MS.
There were a lot of older people there and I was one of the younger ones. A good 50% had something to assist them with walking. Tom seemed upset so I was worried it had something to do with the bad odds in the room. It turns out it was more that he was bored.
He said it is unable to sit still for 2 hours on something he actually likes! Anyway, he also said it was very educational and enjoyed listening to the doctor talking.
The question and answer period was quite odd. There were a few people asking questions about where the vaccine is. I wonder if you can make a vaccine without knowing the full cause. Anyway, the drugs coming look quite promising but very scary. There were at least 4-5 deaths she discussed when it comes to new drugs in development. It’s going to come down to risking your life for an effect drug. That will be a very hard decision to make. Risk your life which is not currently at risk in order to life a more normal life. Hard choice.
I take off to Europe in a week and I have been trying to get a month of Copaxone early but Aetna says I can only get a vacation override 6 days before I leave for Europe. 6 days is not very long for Aetna. I worry they will screw up. Oh well.

You raise a great issue. Does one do something drastic in terms of treatment in hopes that it will minimize suffering down the road? I feel good so for now I will skip the treatment and try to live a healthy life with my fingers crossed.
