I asked the lab about how I can get my results. They said the only way is to go through the doctor. So I called the doctor today and I got the very weird medical assistant. He’s a nice guy but very very weird. There were a couple labs that were a little off. It looks like those are usually off for people with Multiple Sclerosis. More specifically, Albumin and the Albumin/Globulin Ratio. They are low by .1. I was glad to hear my Vitamin B12 level was in the normal range. I would like to be on the higher end of the range though. Yay more pills! They are sending me the results in the mail so I can get a better picture. Anyway, before I hung up the weird medical assistant said “Congratulations!” Kind of an odd response but anyway I do have a point.
When are we going to be able to get our records online??! I want to get my lab results, MRI and all my doctors notes online already. I have messed with Google Health and it’s nice for importing information. It can pull information from other sources but none of those sources are ones my doctors use.
The bottom line is I don’t want to call a doctor and talk to a bunch of people to get my own lab results. This should be streamlined. Every time I have a medical test, the results should be sent to my doctor and me. End of story.
The preferred method would be over a website. If people are concerned with security then the doctor can provide a client side SSL certificate or a RSA token. There are ways of making it secure and safe.
Just another reason to vote for Obama. He’s all for electronic medical records…
Yay! Tomorrow is spinal MRI day. I am thrilled. I can’t wait until I can stop going to the doctor. I am so freakin tired of going to the doctor.
P.S. That injection in my left arm freakin hurt. ARGH!!! I wonder if I missed. Oh well.

I have Kaiser for my HMO and we now have kp.org. It rocks because I can email my doctor and check all my records. I hear you about the online access… It is very important.
